Getting Into the Business Services Industry

Business services are a set of activities that support other businesses in their pursuit of profit. They do not involve the production of tangible goods, but are based on interactions, knowledge, and expertise. These services help companies save time and money, increase productivity, and improve their competitive position. Companies that provide business services include IT, financial services, consulting, logistics (including shipping), waste handling, and administration. The industry is rapidly expanding and offers lucrative career prospects to those with the right skills and qualifications.

Getting into a business services career requires an appropriate educational background and training. Depending on the profession, the required qualifications range from a bachelor’s degree to certifications like CPA and CFA. These professionals must also have the ability to work well under pressure and meet stringent deadlines. In addition, they should be knowledgeable of the latest technology and techniques in their field. Consequently, preparing for a career in this industry involves extensive research and preparation.

What are the different types of business services?

The different kinds of business services include those that help with marketing, advertising, and promoting products or brands. They can also provide information and advice about taxation, regulations, or legal issues that might affect a company. The kind of services that a company needs will depend on its type and size, as well as its specific needs and objectives.

In general, all services that a company needs to operate are considered business services. However, for globalEDGE purposes, we define all activities related to money or finances as Financial Services, while all other miscellaneous business services are classified as Administrative Services. In this way, we separate activities that are necessary for the operation of a company from those that are not.

Some examples of business services are graphic design, IT services, utilities, and facilities management. Graphics design is a service that produces logos, signs, publications, and web graphics for business customers. IT services are an integral part of most organizations, and they are a critical component for any company. Utility services include electricity, gas, and water, which are often provided by large centralized utilities to their business customers. Services related to employee quality of life fall under the category of Administrative Services. Facilities management includes activities such as cleaning, security, and travel arrangements.
